A mentor for all
When I watch or read the news I sometimes wonder how we are going to make it as human beings. It has really bothered me lately because of my baby boy.
I worry about Wes’ future and what might happen to him. Of course, if you know me at all, you know that I tend to worry about everything, a lot! It might be what Charlie Brown had in A Charlie Brown Christmas, pantophobia- the fear of everything.
Anyway, I have to think of what I went through as a child and young adult and how that could help. Also, recent events have re-opened my eyes to someone who had great influence over me and many others growing up. Sherry Eden has been in my life in some fashion since I was a child and has played an important role in what I am today.
I grew up with Mrs. Sherry and her family through our church where she was active with the youth. You could always count on her being there for you and everything she did, she did with her whole heart. Not only could she keep up with the kids, she would usually leave them in her dust. We have never figured out where she gets all her energy. I get tired just watching her.
This is the type of person I hope Wes has around while growing up. It is because of her and people like her that keep our youth focused on the right things. And there just aren’t enough of them.
Looking back, one thing that I have realized about Mrs. Sherry is her devotion in everything she does, without the need for recognition. There are so many things that she is or has been involved in that nobody knows about because she is in it for the right reasons.
That is a powerful lesson not only for Wes, but for us all.
My wish is that some day, Mrs. Sherry will be recognized for all the wonderful things she has done for our church and our community. I am proud to say that I know her and love her dearly and that the things she has done and continues to do, always inspires and helps others.
