The Old White House

Sometime you have to sit back and reflect on things in life. This week was no different as I reminisce about the White House of old.

Only being around for 40 years, many of you have an upper hand at my past recollection of the city. However, my White House of old, contained such unforgettable characters as Cleon Wilkinson, Burr Howeth, Robert Covington and a slew of others that represented what the town was all about.
I know things change, but we still have memories to comfort us in times of need. I often daydream about cruising through the town and knowing pretty much everyone you pass on the road. You would see Chief Morris Fisher patrolling the streets and could catch up on everything going on either at the Smoke House or the Blue Devil Hut.

Every year, we lose more and more of our heritage in property and more importantly, life.

Last week, White House saw another passing of a fixture in the community as Charlie Spicer was laid to rest. His legacy of Nervous Charlies’ and Sad Sam’s will hopefully be a reminder of his dedication to the community.

As I write this, another dear friend of White House, Stan McAfee, struggles with serious health problems at Baptist Hospital.

I talked to several friends of Stan this week who wish for everyone to pray for him and his family in their time of need.

Stan is a true people person who dearly loves this community and the people in it.

Just remember to cherish those around you and especially those who make an impact on the community with selfless caring.
