Across from Sid’s Barber Shop along Highway 76 sits Second Chances Consignment Boutique. It’s a place where shoppers can find new and antique items of quality and variety. “Our goal is to provide really special, unique items at outstanding prices where people can come in and buy antique jewelry and clothing that is really exceptional,” owner Lisa Marie Gutierrez stated.
The store has been open since January 23, and, although its themed rooms are still evolving, it is filled to the brim with virtually every kind of good imaginable. The front room of the small shop holds a remarkable array of antique jewelry, hats, pocket books and more as well as art and other creations from local artisans. Further inside the store are several racks of clothing with a wide variety of brands and sizes including such treasures as Armani shirts, Coach shoes and formal wear. The children’s room carries an abundance of name brand clothing as well as antique toys. Second Chances also features home décor and items such as full china sets, pot and pans and kitchen gadgets. “We have almost anything you can imagine,” Gutierrez observed.
With a current roster of seventy-three consignors, a keen eye for importing the unusual (there are things from California and even from the Czech Republic), and a number of contributing artists, Second Chances is striving to be “everybody’s little store.” Gutierrez sees the shop as a much needed outlet “for people who make things” as well as “a great alternative to garage sales.” She also offers consistent and generous terms to consignors as well as a message board for posting items too large to sell through her consignment shop. Customers have posted furniture, light fixtures and even homes for sale on the board. Others have entrusted Gutierrez with the task of selling their goods through services such as Ebay.
The Gutierrez family relocated to White House from New York last summer after their oldest daughter enrolled in the Tennessee School for the Blind. The change has been a positive one, and the family is relishing the secure, friendly atmosphere of their new home town. Although Second Chances is not what brought Lisa Marie here, it has become her opportunity to “love and serve” the community.
Second Chances Consignment Boutique is located at 301 Highway 76 and is open for business Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and can be reached by phone at 672-1552 or online at www.secondchances.ws. The shop is currently accepting spring merchandise ranging from outdoor furniture to clothing. Winter items are being clearanced, making Second Chances the most affordable place to buy ahead. It is a place where shoppers “will find something for everyone and get the most for their money,” Gutierrez assured.
