A thank You from Alex
I just want to express my gratitude to all of the people in this community and the surrounding areas for the kindness that they have shown me over the past several months. I have been ill and fighting cancer and everyone has shown their love and support during my time of need. You don’t know how much I appreciate it.
I still have a long road to travel down, but feel confident, especially knowing how many people are praying for me.
I especially want to thank all the good people at Al’s who have gone out of their way to help me. With everyone’s help and prayers, I will get through this!
Your friend,
Alex Kiss
Tyree Springs Safety
When my family first moved to White House, we were impressed that the city had 1) the walking trail that surrounded almost the entire city, 2) wonderful soccer complex, 3) nice city park that offered many fields for baseball/softball.
It appeared that the city was concerned about the welfare of the kids.
Now that our daughter is attending White House High School, I am not so impressed with what the city is doing to protect our kids.
If you travel Tyree Springs Road, you will find many kids walking to/from school and this is a tragedy waiting to happen due to the road not having adequate shoulders nor a sidewalk available for these kids to safely be on. Many drivers swerve across the yellow line to give room for the walkers thus a tragic car accident could happen or one of the kids walking could be hit.
Traveling south to the high school, the school zone sign is not operating and is practically invisible due to overhanging tree branches.
Very few drivers observe the minimum normal speed allowed on Tyree Springs and for those who do, it is unsafe due to those who are following too closely on their bumper.
Considering there are many teenage drivers on this road, Tyree Springs Road should be made safer by widening this road to allow for maximum shoulders and/or sidewalks installed.
Thank You,
Sandy Trout, White House
Lesson Learned
This past week has been a very tough one for the White House High School Band. One of their band members who finished school last year passed away. I just hope Shay knew how much she was loved.
You always hear bad things about kids, parents, and teachers, never the good. I myself learned a lesson from the young women and young men in the band. There are still a lot of great kids and we have them here. I saw these kids in pain from losing a close friend. They cried, they hugged, they talked, and they cried a lot more. But they stayed together and helped one another get past this week. They got together at the park to raise money for Shay’s family and play a song for their missing member. With tears running down their faces the song “Let It Be” by the The Beatles was played from the heart. A song they never played before, but one of Shay’s favorites. And they did great. I am very proud of them.
As for the parents of these kids, they were there if they were needed. Something that a lot of kids don’t have. Someone there to help and support.
And, now for the band teachers, Mr. Scott and Mr. Warpool. These two men were with these kids all Labor Day weekend. They weren’t being paid for this, they were there because they care about our kids. These teachers cried and hugged them as if they were their kids. Mr. Scott and Mr. Warpool also had to deal with their own feelings too. They loved Shay, she was family.
I want to say THANK YOU to Mr. Scott and Mr. Warpool for being there for our kids.

Radical Feminist Movement
Isn’t it interesting to watch the response to Sarah Palin? The radical feminist movement, liberal media types/bloggers and self absorbed Hollywood types are hysterically ripping her apart. The reason is clear. She has committed the unpardonable sin. She did not abort her Down syndrome child like 90% of the women given that diagnosis and she did not spirit her teenage daughter to the nearest abortion mill at the mention of the P word. Even David Letterman suggested that Palin was unfit to serve because he thinks she did not inform her daughter of the wonders of foolproof birth control. Isn’t that an oxymoron? Daughter makes a mistake and Palin stands beside her as she chooses life.
How interesting that the only choice these people really believe in is their choice. What kind of a mother would choose not to abort her Down syndrome child and have the further audacity to bring him out in public, kiss and coo, and show him to the cameras? He’s perfect, she said and did you hear she is nursing him, they hiss. Even the female talking heads are wrinkling their powdered noses at her. What kind of a woman has five children anyway? Does she really belong in a public office? YES, I say and she is just the kind I want to represent me.

DEFENDING WH POLICE DEPT.
Friends and Neighbors:
After reading the Class Action Lawsuit against the White House Police Department in the White House Connection section of the Bargain Browser, I am compelled to write in their defense. These accusations go back as long as there has been a police officer stopping a young person/teenager and a parent says, “Surely not my little angel”. As a former member of the White House Police Department, I can assure you that no child has been mistreated or harassed. Not under as far back as Morris Fisher’s tenure as Chief up until our current Chief Herman. You vote for and elect the lawmakers, they write the law and under the direction of the state and local district attorneys and supervision of the police chief, the officers are sworn to uphold the law and enforce the same. As long as that’s done there is no harassment, your child is not being mistreated.
You should be thankful that these fine young men and women are out there watching, and doing what you should be doing at home.
I want to offer a letter which I wrote in 1986, after one of our 17 year old boys was driving drunk and hit a 17 year old gird head-on on Portland Road. The crash killed her instantly. Now should I say, “TOO BAD SOME POLICE OFFICER DIDN’T STOP HIM AND HARASS HIM BEFORE THE CRASH.”
