Fire Doesn’t Dampen Spirits
Dear Editor,
Linda, Jason and I would like to express our gratitude to the many people who have helped and been so kind to us during and after the lightening strike and fire at our home eight weeks ago.
First we thank the police and fire department for their rapid and professional response bringing back order and minimizing damage to our home. Our local emergency workers rarely get enough praise, yet they deserve so much.
We want to thank the Vet, Dr. Link, and the office professionals for their saving the life of Shane’s dog after he suffered smoke inhalation. He is doing fine now.
We thank Pastors Herb Mayes and Ron Stroupe for all the loving support they have given us and all the folks at Hosana Church for being there and praying for us.
Finally we thank all our friends and customers in White House who have asked about us and been so concerned and kind in our days of frustration. Hopefully it will all be behind us soon.

Alive In Love
To the Editor:
There have been many sleepless nights since the passing of our precious Dave.
During one of these 2 a.m. mornings, words I had been waiting for finally graced my mind. Words to share with a community that had shown such great love during our time of great loss.
The outpouring of thoughts, prayers, flowers, heart-felt hugs, and comforting words touched our hearts so deeply. The ink-filled pages of hundreds of names and the multitude that stood, even in the halls, during his service - will forever be etched in our memory. Reminding us of how loved, respected and appreciated he was.
The love we shared as husband, wife, family, was a love so rich, full and deep. Losing him has been the lowest of lows ever experienced in my life. The heart wrenching, breathtaking pain of losing a part of me is a pain that words cannot describe.
The thought: “I’ll take the lows of life in order to enjoy the highs,” is a thought that flutters often in my mind. These words help me understand that intense pain can only be felt so strongly when love, joy and contentment has been so intensely present before.
I am now aware that the “highs” in our life make the “lows” hurt so deeply. So these thoughts we share: Love the ones you love. Show how much you care. Hug tightly. Give Freely. Be present in your special moments of everyday life. Laugh often. And enjoy the sunrise, sunset, moon & stars every chance you get. Live life in a way that makes you feel alive...alive in love...not just going through the motions.
With Love,

Thank You Neighbors
To the Editor:
We would like to give thanks to the wonderful neighbors of Arnetty Acres off of Shun Pike, for all their help when Mike fell and broke 20 ribs, etc. We have been here over 24 years.
A special thank you to the Porters for all the good food, to Garry Dorris for all the extra help, to Joan for helping Sarah. To Mrs. Fields I’d like to say we are sorry about Bill and we wish you luck with the sale of your house, you have been a great neighbor.

balanced budget
To the Editor:
We’re tired of it and we’re not going to take it anymore!! That is the cry we hear every day from citizens all over America, Tennessee and in Robertson County! We are being over taxed and we see no end to it. It has to stop!! At a time when our fellow citizens are losing their jobs, their homes, their cars and most of all, their dreams of a future for themselves and their families, the madness has to stop!
Have you been hearing this message as we have? There is something we can do about some of it!
CALL TO ACTION!! The Robertson County Commissioners are holding their Annual Budget Hearing on Tuesday evening, August 18 at 7 PM in the County Commissioners Meeting Room on Brown St in Springfield. WE NEED TO PACK THE ROOM!! They are planning on voting on August 24th. The Budget is already being presented late, so let’s send them back to the drawing board to bring back a balanced budget BEFORE they can vote on it! You have the right to speak at this hearing. You do not at the Commissioners Meeting unless you contact The County Mayor’s Office and ask to be placed on the agenda.
The agenda contains a plan to raise our taxes again this year - $.18 On top of the $.42 from last year. Robertson County has more than $13 Million in Debt Services (the largest in Tennessee). I don’t know about you, but I believe in a balanced budget. Businesses and Service areas are making cuts all over the country and state in order to save dollars. I don’t see Robertson County cutting any staff or feeling any real pinch. They just keep piling it on!!
We all need to be there to voice our concerns and ask the Commissioners not to vote for this increase. WE MUST HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!
We say that any Commissioner, who votes for another tax increase, cannot expect the voters of Robertson County to re-elect them in 2010. Let us make sure that any Commissioner, who does vote for this increase, has an opponent next year to end this cycle of “never seeing a tax increase they didn’t like”!
We look forward to seeing you at the Hearing!
