The Life and Times of Kit-Cat and Buddha
By Margery McCurdy Plummer
There’s good news from our house this week. A brand new Kit Cat Clock now hangs on our kitchen wall filling the outline where one hung for many years. We never thought we’d have a jewel of a clock like Kit Cat after he stopped running and we relegated him to the “used or broken things” room.
One day, however, my husband was “experimenting” with his computer, and up came Kit Cat Clock, and in one corner almost as big life was a Kit Cat Clock identical to the one we had, his tail wagging, red centered eyes rolling, his white bow tie outlined in jewels and claws of “diamonds.”
We found that the company makes different styles of clocks, but Kit Cat seemed to have been the specialty, and that was what we wanted. When the Kit Cat arrived, we received some interesting information about the Kit Cat Clock and its history. Without going into the many details given, some were: The idea for the Cat was born in 1932. In 1944 Kit-Cat went electric. In 1984 Kit-Cat Fan Club started with its now world famous creed:
“Put a smile on everyone’s face.”
“Love in everyone’s heart.”
“Energy in everyone’s body.”
“And be a positive force in everyone’s life.”
In 1989 the last electronic Kit Cats rolled off the assembly line. In 1990 battery operated clocks were introduced.
In 1996 Kit Cat clock went on the web at www.cat.com
2007 “Wow! Our 75th Anniversary Special Limited Edition Kit Cat Clock is out.” We have it, and it’s exactly like the old one, only this one has 75th Anniversary printed in the center at about twice the price of the original one.
Another “could be trash but is a treasure to me” has had a new light shed on it. My Buddha that I have had half hidden is now “trendy.” An article I read stated that the contemporary look can be softened with the “Asian” look of a Buddha. I’m not sure that my flashy, gold, glittering one is what they have in mind, but their idea sounds great. From what I read, the Buddha carries a legend of bringing luck and happiness along with calmness, peace and serenity to the decor of any room and the owner of the home.
Can you imagine how much calmness, serenity and peace surrounds our home with its Buddha along with Kit-Cat-Klock’s “smile on our face, love in our heart, energy in our body, and the positive force we bring to everyone’s life?” Come visit us.
