Colts win NACA National Championship . . . again!!

By Drew Christenson
For the second year in a row, the Christian Community High School football team claimed the title of the National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament in Dayton, TN.

They defeated Mountain Empire Baptist School out of Bristol, TN 52-14 in the championship game November 9. This year, the Colts moved up to Division II in the NACA tournament.

Jordan Flanders was named Offensive MVP while QB Devon Jones was named top QB for the second year in a row. Others receiving honors were: Ralph Dunn- Defensive MVP, Garrett Davis- Defensive MVP and Best Kicker, Jones was also named as a Defensive MVP.

“It feels good to be a National Champion 2 years in a row and in a tougher division,” said Colts Head Coach Michael Johnson. “This town should be proud of these guys as they represented White House and the surrounding areas in a great way.”

The Colts racked up 52 points in the first half of their first game against Conway Christian (Arkansas) and shut out the Eagles in the second half. CCHS walked away from that game 74-30 advancing to the championship game.

The title game was another blow-out, beating Mt. Empire 52-14 securing the title and ending their 2007 season with a 11-2 record.

“All year long we stressed that we are a family and play as a team,” noted Johnson. “I think they realized that if a family sticks together they can accomplish a lot more as a group than individuals. They came into the game as winners but they left champions.”
