Lady Pats reving up

The Heritage Lady Patriots have had a great start to the new year as they have won four straight games since the Christmas break with the last three being pivotal district games.

Heritage started off last week at Jo Byrns and churned out a 52-45 victory. Still battling injury, Chelsea Hannah still shined with a 22 point game leading all scores. Ball handler Brandi Redding was right behind with 17.

A tight game for most of the clock, the Lady Devils held a slim 1-point lead going into the 4th. However, the Heritage squad ran a 18-10 quarter taking the district win home.

Friday night, the Lady Pats hosted a dismal Clarksville Academy squad. Heritage was given a break by facing a poor team and being able to rest Hannah and Haley Upton who are coming off injuries.

Sophomore Kimi Dorris proved that she is a contributor and future regular starter leading all scores with a career high 17 points for Heritage who beat the Lady Cougars 41-18.

“I was nervous going into the game but knew that I had to step up and play a good game,” noted Dorris. “We had to adjust to Chelsea and Haley being out and I think we did.”

Heritage and Clarksville Academy battled much of the first quarter under the goal for rebounds, but the Lady Pats only allowed 2-points from the Lady Cougars while scoring 16 for themselves.

Three Heritage players had a 3-point basket on the night including Jordan Cook, Dorris and Redding.

“We’ve been able to have a couple of days of practice with Chelsea and Haley out so we were able to get somewhat prepared,” explained Lady Patriot Head Coach Carrie Cayce. “The girls have been coming off the bench and doing well. Kimi improves every day and she listens to what you say and works hard to improve. I look for her to continue to improve during the season.”

The Lady Pats have two more important District 10-A games this week hosting district leader East Robertson tonight and traveling to Houston County Friday. The Lady Indians beat Heritage earlier in the season 55-42. In a low scoring game, Heritage defeated Houston County in their first meeting 38-27.
